I Thought My Big Body Would Prevent Abusive Relationship Until I Got My First Slap – Monalisa Stephen

Nollywood actress, Monalisa Stephen has shared her experience in an abusive relationship, expressing her disbelief that such violence could happen to her.

In an interview with Saturday Beats, Monalisa Stephen said he initially  thought her size would protect her, believing that abuse was not something she would face.

However, the actress said she realized that abuse can affect anyone, regardless of body type after she got her first slap.

According to her, the first time she was hit, she was taken aback, especially since the reason for the slap seemed trivial.

The content creator said that this unexpected incident left her feeling betrayed because it came from someone she trusted, despite him being below her standards.

She said that the abuse continued, and when she questioned her partner’s behavior, he justified it by saying that his friend suggested people like her needed to be “bent” to be controlled.

Monalisa Stephen said that this statement shifted her perspective on men and their potential for abusive behavior.

She said, “I didn’t really know it was a thing. I used to hear other women talk about it, but I didn’t think it would happen to me. I used to believe, ‘I’m a huge woman with a big body, why would anyone want to beat me?’

“But it has nothing to do with your body. You can be abused whether you’re fat or not. When I got the first slap, I was shocked. What led to the slap wasn’t even worth it. I was dazed. The experience was unexpected, and I felt really bad because this was someone I trusted. Even though he was below my league, I lowered my standards to date him.

“This person kept beating me and humiliating me. I asked him, ‘Why do you keep doing this to me?’ and he said his friend told him that people like me need to be ‘bent’ so he could dominate me. That made me see some men in a different light.”

Monalisa Stephen also pointed out that many people believe public figures don’t face problems, but the reality is quite the opposite.

The actress noted that some individuals see famous people as easy targets for dating.

KanyiDaily recalls that Monalisa Stephen recently revealed she was in an open relationship with two men who were aware of each other’s existence in her life.
