Nigerians React As First Lady, Remi Tinubu Unveils National Unity Fabric For October 1

Nigerians have taken to social media to share their thoughts after the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, introduced the OneNigeria/Unity Fabric, a symbol she says represents national unity.

During the unveiling ceremony on Monday, September 16, at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja, Remi Tinubu explained that the idea was inspired by a similar initiative she encountered during her visit to Zimbabwe in December 2023.

Mrs Tinubu announced that the fabric would be worn nationwide to mark Nigeria’s Independence Day on October 1, 2024.

She emphasized that local manufacturers would produce it to support the textile industry, create jobs, and boost the economy.

Nigerians on social media have condemned the initiative, stressing that many citizens are currently facing issues like hunger, unemployment, and rising living costs.
