The accident, which happened on October 7 on the Rumiñahui highway near Quito, also claimed the lives of his former youth teammate, Roberto Cabezas, and another passenger, Victor Carcopa.
Cabezas, who played for Independiente Juniors, was driving when the car collided with a metal barrier.
22-year-old Angulo, who was a passenger, sustained critical head injuries and a lung contusion.
After multiple surgeries and time in intensive care, he was placed in an induced coma but sadly passed on Monday night, November 11.
In a statement, Angulo’s club LDU Quito expressed their deep sorrow, calling his death an “irreparable loss.”
His parent club, FC Cincinnati, also shared their heartbreak, noting his time in Major League Soccer before he joined LDU Quito on loan earlier this year.
Angulo had earned three caps for Ecuador’s national team, making his debut in November 2022 against Iraq.
The Ecuadorian Football Association honored his memory, describing him as both a skilled player and a cherished teammate.
