The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has charged Usman Yusuf, a former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), with alleged fraud in an amended five-count case.
Usman Yusuf was arraigned on Monday before Justice Chinyere Nwecheonwu at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Kuje, Abuja, where he pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Following his plea, his lawyer, O.I. Habeeb, requested that he remain in EFCC custody until his bail hearing.
However, the judge clarified that once a defendant is arraigned, they are no longer under the EFCC’s detention.
As a result, the court ordered Yusuf to be held at the Kuje Correctional Centre until his bail application is heard on February 12, 2025.
KanyiDaily recalls that Usman Yusuf is accused of abusing his office for personal gain between 2016 and 2017, including awarding contracts without following proper procurement procedures.
