According to Channels Television, a local resident said the blast happened on an onshore pipeline near the starting point of the Bodo-Bonny road.
The cause of the explosion is still unclear, but the resident speculated it might be an act of sabotage.
However, there is no confirmed link between the incident and the ongoing political tensions in Rivers State.
While authorities have yet to respond, some locals fear that if such incidents continue unchecked, they could encourage further unrest in the Niger Delta.
This is coming amid the ongoing tension between Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara and the State House of Assembly.
