It was gathered that the confrontation happened along the Ayeka/Igodan-Igbokoda expressway.
According to eyewitnesses, a disagreement between the two men—over an issue yet to be disclosed—quickly turned violent.
The scavenger reportedly pulled out a dagger and slashed Omoge’s throat. He was rushed to the hospital but was confirmed dead shortly after arrival.
Vanguard quoted the source saying, “the argument escalated into a violent confrontation and the assailant brought out a dagger and cut the throat of the deceased.
“There was a minor disagreement between Prince Omoge and the scavenger. What started as a small issue quickly spiraled out of control.
“He was brutally killed, and the attacker fled the scene immediately afterward. The victim was rushed to the hospital but was sadly pronounced dead by medical personnel.”
The shocking event prompted immediate action from residents and security officials.
Andrew Ogunsakin, Chairman of Okitipupa Local Government, confirmed the arrest of a suspect named Machido Abubakar.
He praised the swift efforts of security agents in tracking down the attacker and reassured the victim’s family that justice would be pursued.
In a move to maintain peace in the area, Ogunsakin also met with traditional rulers, youth leaders, and representatives of the Hausa/Fulani community to encourage unity and prevent further tension.
Police spokesperson Ayanlade Olayinka confirmed the suspect is in custody and investigations are ongoing.
Ayanlade said, “Yes, I can confirm the incident. One suspect has been arrested and is currently being held in custody.”
Meanwhile, residents have been urged to stay calm as authorities handle the situation.
KanyiDaily also reported that suspected herdsmen launched a deadly attack in Otobi community, the Akpa district of Otukpo Local Government Area, Benue State.
