Akpabio, Yahaya Bello To Testify As FG Files Criminal Charges Against Natasha Akpoti

The Federal Government has filed a criminal case against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, accusing her of making defamatory statements during a live television appearance.

The case, filed on May 16, 2025, at the Federal Capital Territory High Court and marked CR/297/25, names Akpoti-Uduaghan as the only defendant.

The charge, marked CR/297/2025, stems from comments Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan allegedly made during a live appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today program, aired on April 3, 2025.

The government accused the senator of “making imputation knowing or having reason to believe that such imputation will harm the reputation of a person,” a violation under Section 391 of the Penal Code.

If found guilty, the charge carries penalties under Section 392 of the same law.

The court documents revealed that Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello are expected to testify as witnesses in the case.

KanyiDaily recalls that Akpoti-Uduaghan recently wrote a petition to the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, accusing Godswill Akpabio of orchestrating a deliberate smear campaign against her.
