NIMC Unveils NIN Authentication App To Boost Data Security

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has launched a new application called NINAuth to make identity verification easier and more secure across Nigeria.

This was announced in a statement issued Tuesday by NIMC’s head of corporate communications, Kayode Adegoke.

Adegoke said President Bola Tinubu approved the use of the national identification number authentication (NINAuth) application for identity checks across all government ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).

He said the app is designed to support NIMC’s goal of providing a reliable digital ID system for Nigerian citizens and legal residents.

It aims to improve data security, protect user privacy, and make it easier to access government services.

The launch of the NIN Authentication (NINAuth), a cutting-edge suite of services that include web, API and mobile verification designed to enhance data security, protect privacy, and simplify access to government services, is part of President Tinubu, Renewed Hope Agenda on strengthening the National Identity Management System,” the statement reads.

The NIMC NINAuth application is the official service for integration with the Commission’s backend infrastructure.

“It introduces a robust layer of protection, empowering individuals with greater control over their personal information. By requiring explicit consent before data is shared for Know Your Customer (KYC) processes or other verifications, the platform fosters trust, transparency, and user autonomy in digital identity management.”

According to the commission, the NINAuth app includes web, API, and mobile tools that let individuals verify their identity for activities like SIM card registration, applying for passports, tax filing, banking transactions, and renewing a driver’s license.

The app requires user consent before sharing any personal data for KYC (Know Your Customer) or other verifications, giving users more control over their information. It also serves as a secure single sign-on system to streamline access to government services.

NIMC added that the app was built to work with other platforms through API integration, offering real-time NIN verification for better service delivery and alignment with national identity policies.

It is designed to facilitate real-time authentication of NIN records, thereby promoting effective service delivery, database harmonization, and compliance with the National Identity Policy of the Federal Government of Nigeria,” Adegoke said.

The NINAuth service has been designated as the exclusive platform for all NIN-based verification and authentication integration processes for optimal services.”

Adegoke revealed that NINAuth is now the official platform for all NIN-related verification processes.

He added that Nigerians can download it from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store, with setup instructions available on the NIMC website.

KanyiDaily recalls that NIMC stated that it is compulsory for Nigerians to visit the enrolment centres to complete their NIN registration irrespective of generating same through Bank Verification Number (BVN).
