Nigerian Senate has set up an 18-member committee to keep an eye on the actions of Rivers State’s Sole Administrator, retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas.
According to the Senate, the move is aimed at promoting transparency and accountability in how the state is being run.
Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele will head the committee, which was announced on Tuesday by Senate President Godswill Akpabio as lawmakers resumed plenary.
Akpabio stressed that the committee’s work is vital for proper legislative oversight in the state and hinted that the committee’s composition could be adjusted after more consultations.
The committee includes Senators Adamu Aliero, Osita Izunaso, Osita Ngwu, Kaka Shehu, Aminu Abass, Tokunbo Abiru, Adeniyi Adebire, Sani Musa, Simon Lalong, Asuquo Ekpeyong, Adams Oshiomhole, Ireti Kingibe, Onyekachi, Idiat Adebule, Ide Dafinone, and Mohammed, along with the Senate Clerk.
Akpabio urged the members to begin their duties immediately, emphasizing the urgency of the assignment. He also reaffirmed the Senate’s dedication to supporting democratic governance in Rivers State.
