MultiChoice Nigeria Reduces DStv Decoder Price By 50%, Offers Free Upgrades

MultiChoice Nigeria has announced a 50% reduction in the price of its DStv decoder, cutting the cost from ₦20,000 to ₦10,000.

The company said the move is part of a new promotional campaign aimed at attracting more users and addressing the drop in subscriptions.

In a statement on Tuesday, MultiChoice explained that the move is part of its “We’ve Got You” campaign, which kicked off on June 16 and runs until July 31.

In addition to the decoder price slash, MultiChoice is also offering a free package upgrade to active and returning customers.

This means anyone who pays for a current subscription in full during the promo period will automatically be upgraded to the next package tier at no extra cost.

John Ugbe, CEO of MultiChoice Nigeria, said the campaign is designed to show appreciation to loyal customers and to improve everyday access to quality entertainment.

Ugbe added that the initiative aims to reposition DStv as a platform that delivers value daily, encouraging viewers to discover new content across different genres.

“We want to ensure our customers feel appreciated and have access to the best entertainment every day,” Ugbe said.

“The ‘We’ve Got You’ campaign is about making premium content more accessible and showing that DStv offers something for everyone, not just football fans.

“By repositioning itself as a platform for daily value, DStv aims to encourage content discovery across a wider array of genres, including movies, drama, kids’ programming, and news.

“This means more channels, more shows, and more reasons to tune in every day.”

The company said the price cut and upgrade offer are part of its response to the ongoing economic challenges facing Nigerians.

This campaign follows a difficult period for MultiChoice Nigeria, which lost 1.4 million subscribers between March 2023 and March 2025.

During that time, the company also raised prices on its DStv and GOtv packages three times, in April and November 2023, and again in May 2024.

KanyiDaily recalls that the Federal High Court in Abuja recently threw out a lawsuit filed by MultiChoice Nigeria against the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).
