According to UK police, the charges are based on reports from three different women and relate to incidents that happened between 2021 and 2022.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed the charges in a statement released on Friday, July 4, 2025, noting that their investigation began in February 2022 after receiving the initial complaint.
The police said two of the rape charges involve one woman, three relate to a second woman, and the sexual assault charge is linked to a third.
Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, who is leading the investigation, said the main focus is supporting the women who came forward.
Furphy said: “Our priority remains providing support to the women who have come forward.
“We would ask anyone who has been impacted by this case, or anyone who has information, to speak with our team.
“You can contact detectives about this investigation by emailing CIT@met.police.uk”
However, Thomas Partey, 32, denies all allegations.
His lawyer, Jenny Wiltshire, said he has cooperated fully with the police and Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) throughout the three-year investigation.
She added that he looks forward to clearing his name but will not be making further comments due to the legal proceedings.
Wiltshire said: “Thomas Partey denies all the charges against him.
“He has fully cooperated with the police and CPS throughout their three-year investigation. He now welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name.
“Given that there are now ongoing legal proceedings, my client is unable to comment further.”
The Ghanaian international, who had been with Arsenal since 2020, left the club earlier this week after his contract ended.
Arsenal signed him from Atlético Madrid for £45.3 million. He made 130 Premier League appearances, scored nine goals, and helped the club reach the Champions League semi-finals last season.
Partey is also a regular for Ghana’s national team, having earned over 50 caps and recently featured in World Cup qualifiers in March.
The 32-year-old is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 5.
