Nigeria’s Junior D’Tigress Eliminated From FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup

Nigeria’s U19 women’s basketball team, also known as the Junior D’Tigress, have exited the FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup in Czechia after a 77–51 defeat to Hungary.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Nigerian side struggled to keep up with the Hungarians, who dominated most of the game on Wednesday night, July 16.

The match started evenly with both teams tied at 9-9 in the first quarter, but things quickly turned in Hungary’s favor in the second quarter, where Nigeria was outscored 30-12.

In the third quarter, Nigeria showed some fight, scoring 15 points to Hungary’s 16, but it wasn’t enough to close the gap.

The European side maintained their lead in the fourth quarter, edging Nigeria 16-15 to seal the win.

Hungary’s Kinga Jisepovits was the standout player with 19 points, while Eliza Farbas grabbed 13 rebounds.

For Nigeria, Tobenna Nweke led with 12 points and Francis Chukwu added 9 rebounds.

Despite the loss, Nigeria made history by becoming the first African team to win a game and reach the round of 16 in the tournament’s history.
