“Probe Obaseki Now, He Must Come Out Of Hiding For Questioning” – Oshiomhole Tells Okpebholo

Adams Oshiomhole, senator representing Edo North, has urged the state governor, Monday Okpebholo, to launch an investigation into his predecessor, Godwin Obaseki.

Oshiomhole made the call during a celebration event held after the Supreme Court upheld Okpebholo’s victory in the last governorship election.

He said now that the legal distractions are over, the new governor should take a closer look at certain projects handled by the previous administration.

The senator specifically pointed to the Radisson Hotel project, alleging that billions of dollars in state funds were invested, yet Edo ended up with only a minority stake in the hotel.

The hotel project was initiated under Obaseki’s government as a move to grow tourism and improve the state’s economy.

But critics have raised concerns about how the money was used and why 80 percent ownership was reportedly handed over to a private firm, despite the state’s major investment.

Okpebholo now has time to look at that hotel where Edo state money in tens of billions of dollars was taken.

“And now we are told Edo is a minority shareholder. You now have time to look into that,” Oshiomhole said.

Oshiomhole also questioned the durability of roads built during Obaseki’s tenure, claiming many have already washed away.

The former governor compared them to projects completed during his own time as governor, which he says have stood the test of time.

He said the governor now has time to revisit all the roads that were built and washed up, “compared to the ones I did, which are still there”

“So by the time your Excellency now has time for the second rematch, Obaseki will have to come out from hiding to answer to those questions. We have come to rescue Edo, but to rescue means you must also investigate.

“How did we get here? So that in the future nobody will get there. God will give you the wisdom, the energy and everything required to keep our state going.

“I now challenge Obaseki to come to Edo; let us work as former governors. Let us all walk on the streets of Benin. Let’s see who did what to affect the life of the people.”

Oshiomhole called on the new administration to govern with wisdom and focus on building both infrastructure and unity among the people.

Governor Monday, what God has put to stand, no man can bring down. And when He gives you a job, He will not give you luggage that your neck cannot bear.

“I don’t know when I last saw a collection of men and women from across the local governments of Edo within minutes. It shows that beyond building roads and schools, we also have to build the unity of our people. This is critical.

“As a state that is a minority in terms of nationality and politics, the unity of our people is essential,” he said.

KanyiDaily recalls that the Supreme Court recently affirmed Monday Okpebholo as the duly elected governor of Edo State, putting an end to the legal battle over the outcome of the September 2025 governorship election.
