Retired Police Officers in Abuja And Taraba Protest Over Poor Welfare Conditions

Retired police officers staged peaceful protests on Monday in both Abuja and Jalingo, Taraba State, to raise awareness about poor welfare conditions for both serving and retired officers.

In Abuja, the protest was joined by activist and Revolution Now Convener, Omoyele Sowore, who stood in solidarity with the retirees.

They demanded urgent action from the Federal Government, citing years of neglect, unpaid pensions, and general mistreatment after years of service.

Speaking during the protest, Sowore urged the government to acknowledge the sacrifices made by police officers and take immediate steps to improve their welfare.

The retirees warned that they would continue their protests if their concerns were not addressed.

In Taraba, the protest took place in the state capital, Jalingo, where retired officers marched with placards and banners.

A major part of their demand was the complete removal of the Police Contributory Pension Scheme.

Messages on their placards included: “We demand total exit from the deadly Police Contributory Pension Scheme,” “Scrap police contribution pension scheme,” and “We need our full gratuity”.
