Scott Iguma Remanded In Prison For Calling Out PWAN Real Estate Company

A Federal High Court in Ikoyi has ordered that Real Estate activist, Scott Iguma be remanded in prison until Monday, July 21.

KanyiDaily had reported how Scott Iguma was arrested on Wednesday, July 16, and taken to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Panti, Lagos.

His arrest followed a series of Instagram posts in which he accused the real estate firm, PWAN, of scamming clients by issuing payment receipts instead of actual land allocations.

In one of his posts earlier in the week, Iguma claimed he submitted 25 new petitions against PWAN to the EFCC, bringing the total number of complaints from clients to 130.

The activist also stated that at least 30 more people had reached out to him but hadn’t filed petitions yet.

Scott Iguma had on Monday, in a series posts on Instagram, alleged: “PWAN sells receipts for customers instead of land. I was at the EFCC again yesterday to submit another 25 petitions against PWAN. So we now have a total of 130 petitions from customers that have been sent to the EFCC against PWAN.

“And we have about 30 victims that we have not filed their petition. Day after day, more victims are still coming to my DM and telling me the atrocities that they have gone through.”

Iguma also alleged that senior police officers were helping PWAN silence its critics and intimidate victims who tried to speak out.

After his arrest on Wednesday, a message shared on Iguma’s Instagram page accused the police of unlawful detention.

The post read: “The Nigerian police force has again towed the side of illegality by detaining our client, Mr Scott Iguma today for purpotedly defaming PWAN.

“Assuming but not conceding that his videos by any means defamed PWAN, defamation is no longer a crime in Lagos State by the decriminalisation of it in the Lagos State Criminal Law of 2011.

“The Nigeria Police should stop being a vehicle for intimidation. We are working on getting Mr Iguma released.”

The page later alleged that, “PWAN used the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Yaba Panti to detain Scott Iguma.”

On Thursday, Iguma was arraigned before the court, which ruled that he should remain in custody until Monday, July 21, for further proceedings.

Nigerian musician Kokopee also spoke out in a video shared on Instagram, criticizing the decision.

“I’m here in Ikoyi, sadly Scott has been remanded till Monday. He has been remanded for fighting for people. You have a problem with the way he has done it? Did he kill someone? Did he commit a crime?

“In Lagos I thought they said defamation is not a crime?” he asked.

KanyiDaily recalls that Dr. Mkor Aondona, a Special Adviser to the Benue State Governor, was recently arrested by the EFCC over allegations of sextortion, blackmail, and cyberbullying.
