Man Arraigned For Allegedly Threatening Governor Adeleke’s Life In Court

A 32-year-old man, Rasaq Gafar, was arraigned before the Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for allegedly threatening the life of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke.

Rasaq Gafar is facing charges of issuing death threats, threatening someone’s life, and disturbing public peace.

During his arraignment on Wednesday, the man pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

The Prosecutor, Matthew Ojei, stated that the defendant committed the offences on July 12 in Ibadan..

Ojei told the court that Gafar used social media to post messages threatening the governor and acted in a way that could have led to unrest.

The prosecutor said Gafar’s actions violated Sections 249(D) and 323 of the Oyo State Criminal Code, 2000.

Gafar’s lawyer, Marvelous Ojeleye, asked the court to grant him bail under lenient conditions.

The presiding magistrate, Mrs. Olabisi Ogunkanmi, granted bail in the sum of N2.5 million with two sureties in the same amount.

Ogunkanmi said that one of the sureties must own property, and the other must be a relative of the defendant.

The case was adjourned to November 13 for further hearing.

KanyiDaily recalls that Governor Ademola Adeleke, and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun state recently thrown their weight behind President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
