Dangote Not Owner Of Truck Involved In Enugu Fatal Accident – Police

The Enugu State Police Command has confirmed that the truck involved in last week’s deadly crash on the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway was not owned by Dangote Industries Limited but by Visco Investment Global Limited, an independent operator.

In a statement on Thursday, police explained that two separate accidents occurred on September 3 along the Ozalla/4-Corner stretch of the highway, which claimed 10 lives and left another 10 people injured.

The first crash, which happened around 9 a.m., involved a Howo truck loaded with cement and branded with Visco Investment Global, a Toyota Corolla, a Foton bus, and a Daihatsu Hijet mini bus.

The collision sparked a fire that engulfed the truck’s hood and the Corolla, killing all five occupants of the car. Another passenger in the mini bus also lost their life.

Hours later, around 3 p.m., a second accident took place involving a Sino truck from Global Investment and a tricycle.

Police reported that the truck, also transporting cement, ran into the tricycle, killing all four passengers. Ten others injured in the two crashes are currently receiving treatment in the hospital.

Enugu State Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, described both crashes as “avoidable” and ordered a full investigation.

He also advised drivers to exercise extra caution, particularly during the Ember Months, when accident rates tend to rise.

KanyiDaily recalls that following widespread claims linking the tragedy to Dangote, the company issued a clarification, stressing that the truck was not part of its fleet.
