Abdullahi Bello died on Friday along the Malam Sidi–Gombe road while returning from Maiduguri, Borno State.
He had attended a regional consultation meeting on developing a national framework for disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration (DDR) in the North-East.
His death was confirmed in a statement released Friday night by Ismaila Misilli, Director-General of Press Affairs at the Gombe Government House.
According to the statement, Bello died alongside his police orderly, Adamu Husaini, while his driver sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.
Governor Yahaya described Bello’s death as a painful loss, noting that he was a disciplined and dedicated officer who served Gombe State with integrity and devotion.
He said Bello’s military background brought professionalism, courage, and patriotism to his role in public service.
“Col. Abdullahi Bello (rtd) will be remembered as a pillar of discipline, courage and selfless service,” the statement reads.
Yahaya added that Bello carried out his responsibilities with exceptional commitment and a strong sense of duty, describing his death as a great loss not only to Gombe State but to the entire nation.
