Nnamdi Kanu’s Terrorism Trial Adjourned Over Absence Of His Medical Report

The Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), on terrorism-related charges until October 16.

Justice James Omotosho adjourned the trial following the failure of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) to submit its medical report on Kanu’s health condition as earlier ordered by the court.

At the previous sitting, Justice Omotosho had directed the NMA President to assemble a team of medical experts to assess Kanu’s health and determine whether the medical facilities at the Department of State Services (DSS) were adequate for his treatment.

The court also asked the team to recommend if Nnamdi Kanu should be transferred to a private ward at the National Hospital and to confirm if he is fit to continue with his trial.

During the latest court session, the Federal Government’s counsel, Suraj S’aad, informed the judge that the medical team had notified them that the report was not yet ready.

He requested a one-week adjournment to allow the NMA medical board to complete its findings.

With no objection from the defense, Justice Omotosho granted the request and fixed October 16 for the medical report to be presented to the court.

KanyiDaily recalls that Justice Musa Liman of the Federal High Court in Abuja had returned Nnamdi Kanu’s motion for medical transfer to the Chief Judge for reassignment.
