PENGASSAN Suspends Nationwide Strike After Dispute With Dangote Refinery

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has called off its nationwide strike after reaching an agreement with the management of Dangote Refinery.

The union announced the suspension during a press briefing in Abuja, but cautioned that it would not hesitate to resume the strike if the company fails to stick to the terms of the agreement.

PENGASSAN President, Festus Osifo, said the decision was reached following a lengthy meeting involving the refinery’s management, the federal government, and the National Security Adviser.

He admitted, however, that some unresolved “grey areas” remain in the communiqué signed by both parties.

Osifo said that the union chose to suspend the action in good faith despite lingering dissatisfaction with parts of the resolution.

He warned that PENGASSAN would not hesitate to reactivate the industrial action without warning if Dangote Refinery reneges on the agreement.

KanyiDaily had reported that both PENGASSAN and Dangote Refinery have been at loggerheads following the unionisation of some employees working with the refinery.
