Nigerian rapper, Erigga has spoken out against polygamy, saying the practice only causes pain for women and children.
In an interview with Yanga FM Lagos, the Warri-born artist reflected on his childhood in a polygamous family and how those experiences shaped his decision to avoid following the same path.
Erigga explained that while polygamy might appear attractive from the outside, it often leads to jealousy, emotional conflict, and quiet rivalry among wives and children.
“I am trying not to be like my father. I don’t like polygamy; one person always gets hurt, which is the woman.
“There’s never a polygamous situation where the man gets hurt; it’s always the woman and the kids,” he said.
Erigga added that monogamy, in his view, brings greater peace and balance to family life.
He noted that managing several wives and divided emotions only creates tension and resentment.
The rapper urged men to keep things simple by choosing one partner, emphasizing that true happiness in a home comes from love, respect, and understanding, not from the number of wives a man has.
