President Tinubu Mourns Ex-Minister, Joy Ogwu

President Bola Tinubu has mourned the death of Ambassador Joy Ogwu, Nigeria’s former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

Joy Ogwu, aged 79, was a respected diplomat and academic who represented Nigeria at the UN in New York from May 2008 to May 2017.

During her time there, she twice served as President of the UN Security Council in July 2010 and October 2011, earning recognition for her dedication to peace and international security.

Before her UN role, she led the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), where she contributed significantly to shaping Nigeria’s foreign policy and promoting research in global relations.

In a condolence message issued through his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described Ogwu as a remarkable diplomat who projected Nigeria’s voice with clarity and purpose” and worked tirelessly for peace, disarmament, and women’s empowerment.

He said, “Nigeria has lost a trailblazer who rose to the highest level of her vocation through excellence and hard work.

The President extended his sympathy to Ogwu’s family, her children, grandchildren, and siblings as well as to members of the diplomatic and academic communities mourning her death.

Tinubu prayed for her soul to rest in peace and for God to comfort everyone affected by her passing.

KanyiDaily also reported that Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, a Nigerian evangelist and founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association (UUEA), died at the age of 80.
