Retired Police Officers Block Presidential Villa Gate In Protest Over Pension Scheme

Retired police officers, alongside their families, staged a protest on Monday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where they blocked one of the entrances.

The protesters, under the aegis of the Police Retired Officers Forum of Nigeria (PROF), said they are demonstrating against the continued inclusion of the Nigeria Police Force in the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), which they described as fraudulent, illegal, inhumane, and obnoxious..

According to the retirees, the scheme is unfair and harmful, and they are demanding urgent action from President Bola Tinubu.

They want him to sign the Police Exit Bill into law, a bill that was passed by the National Assembly on December 4, 2025, and later sent to the Presidency on March 16, 2026.

The officers explained that once the bill is approved, it would remove police personnel from the pension scheme, which they believe has negatively affected their welfare.

})(jQuery);

The protest was led by the group’s National Coordinator, Raphael Irowainu on Monday, April 29, 2026.

Speaking during the protest, Irowainu said their main goal is to push the President to approve the bill, noting that all necessary legislative steps have already been completed.

He also pointed out that other security agencies in the country, including the military and intelligence bodies, are no longer part of the scheme, while the police remain included.

Irowainu stressed that their demand is to have the bill signed into law so that police officers can exit the pension system, just like other security agencies.

Our major aim here is to prevail on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to sign our bill—the bill exiting the police from the Contributory Pension Scheme—passed by the National Assembly on 4th December 2025 and transmitted to him on 16th March, 2026, into law, nothing more than that.

“The soldiers have been exited, the SSS has been exited, the Air Force has been exited, the Navy has been exited, the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) has been exited.

“The police, who are the father of them all, are trapped in this obnoxious Contributory Pension Scheme,” CSP Irowainu said.
