Sowore Announces New Protest Hours After His Detention Over #FreeNnamdiKanuNow

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has pledged to keep leading street protests despite his recent arrest and detention by security agencies.

Sowore, who was arrested along with several others during the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest in Abuja, was released on October 27 after spending several days in custody.

The activist was detained last week after appearing in Federal High Court in Abuja where he meet with IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, shortly after he joined the October 20 protest calling for Kanu’s release.

Hours after regaining his freedom, Omoyele Sowore took to his Facebook page to announce plans for another protest against the demolition of houses in Oworonshoki, Lagos.

The activist’s fresh call comes amid growing outrage from residents of Oworonshoki, who have been left homeless after a midnight demolition allegedly carried out by Lagos Government.

In his post, Sowore criticized the police for attempting to stop the planned protest saying, “I heard the CP of the Nigeria Police Force Lagos had the effrontery to warn that TIB & I are not to protest over Oworonshoki demolitions. These unprofessional, worn-out officers have no place in our society. The mass action must go on!”

KanyiDaily recalls that Omoyele Sowore had accused police of attacking peaceful protesters without provocation during the #FreeNnamdiKanu rally.
