Tinubu, Atiku, Peter Obi Hail Super Eagles’ 4–0 Win Over Benin In World Cup Qualifier

President Bola Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi have congratulated the Super Eagles on their 4–0 win over Benin Republic in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

The Nigerian team delivered one of their best performances in the CAF Group C campaign, with Victor Osimhen scoring a hat-trick and Frank Onyeka adding another goal to seal the victory.

Despite the dominant win, Nigeria finished second in the group with 17 points, just one point behind South Africa, who defeated Rwanda 3–0 to claim the top spot.

However, the Super Eagles still have a strong chance of qualifying as one of the best runners-up and could reach the World Cup through the playoffs.

In a statement by his media aide, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu praised the team for their passion, determination, and hunger on the pitch in Uyo, noting that their performance had reignited national pride.

”While the job is not yet complete, I join millions of Nigerian football fans in wishing our team every success in the playoffs.

“The mood across the country reflects a shared belief that Nigeria deserves a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which Canada, Mexico, and the United States will host.

“As your President, I assure you and the coaching crew of the Federal Government’s support as you strive to secure your place at the tournament. Nigerians everywhere believe in you, and I do too.

“We look forward to seeing you fly our flag proudly on the world stage,” the statement reads.

Atiku Abubakar, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), also applauded the team’s display, calling it a reflection of the Nigerian spirit.

You showed true Nigerian spirit, strength, dominance, and unity on the field. This is the power of perseverance and teamwork,” he wrote.

Peter Obi, in his message, described the victory as “sweet and well-deserved.”

“Today, my day started very early at 6 a.m., and after a very hectic day of participating in five different events, commissioning and campaigning in Anambra State, I had to watch the Super Eagles game.

“I watched with so much confidence and pride, and it was such a brilliant and sweet victory against Benin Republic.

“The performance was really Super, showing that it’s Possible. Well done, Super Eagles,” Obi said.
