GOC 82 Division Pushes for Stronger Security Cooperation in South East, Unveils New Military Projects

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Oluremi Ayobami Fadairo, has called for stronger security cooperation among South-East states as he concluded a series of operational visits to brigades and military formations under the Division’s command.

On his maiden tour of 13 and 14 Brigades, as well as other units within the Division’s Area of Responsibility, the GOC commissioned new military infrastructure, received operational briefings, and delivered addresses to officers and soldiers. He described the moves as part of a renewed drive to strengthen professionalism, joint-force readiness, and troops’ welfare.

As part of the visit, Major General Fadairo paid a courtesy call on the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, where he met with heads of security agencies. He emphasized the need for a regional joint security summit involving governors and senior security officials from across the South-East. Such collaboration, he said, was critical to tackling emerging security threats.

“Synergy among security agencies is non-negotiable. A coordinated regional approach will boost our effectiveness and help sustain ongoing security gains,” Major General Fadairo told the governor.

The GOC assured Governor Otti that new, enhanced strategies were being rolled out to consolidate existing successes in the region. He also expressed gratitude for the state government’s support to the military and other security agencies.

During his stop at 13 Brigade, Major General Fadairo praised troops for what he called their “commendable operational effectiveness,” saying their performance reflects the Nigerian Army’s revitalized commitment to professionalism.

He also commissioned key projects initiated under the brigade’s commander, Brigadier General M.O. Ibrahim. These include:

  • The General O.O. Oluyede Hall, a modern multi-purpose lecture and conference facility
  • Two units of Soldiers’ Transit Accommodation

The GOC described the infrastructure as a testament to forward-thinking leadership and urged officers to emulate the same.

At 14 Brigade, Major General Fadairo charged troops to remain resolute in eliminating residual criminal activities in the South-East, while stressing the importance of respecting the rights of law-abiding citizens and maintaining close cooperation with other security agencies.

He also conveyed the commendation of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General W. Shaibu, praising the gallantry of commanders and troops in degrading separatist groups and other criminal elements within the 82 Division’s area of responsibility.

The GOC reaffirmed the Army leadership’s commitment to prioritizing troops’ welfare during service and in retirement. He urged personnel to remain loyal to the Commander-in-Chief and dedicated to safeguarding the nation.
