US Lawmaker Reacts As Adamawa Governor Pardons Sunday Jackson Sentenced To Death For Killing Herder

U.S. Congressman Riley Moore has welcomed the release of Christian farmer Sunday Jackson, who had been sentenced to death by the Adamawa State High Court.

Sunday Jackson was originally sentenced for killing a radical herder in self-defense after the herder attacked his home.

He had been in custody for over ten years, following the violent incident in 2015 that ended in the herder’s death.

Congressman Moore has been actively pushing for Jackson’s release for months, even raising the case during Congressional hearings on Nigeria’s security challenges.

Last Sunday, Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri announced that Jackson, along with others, had been granted a state pardon.

The governor said the pardon was part of Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Reacting to the development, Moore said, “…Sunday Jackson has been pardoned,” adding that the Nigerian government still has more work to do.

He noted that he has observed positive steps by the Nigerian government since his visit, adding, “my concerns and the concerns of President Trump are being taken seriously by the Nigerian government.”

Moore also praised President Bola Tinubu’s administration for engaging with the U.S. government to find ways to improve security in Nigeria.

He emphasized that every effort should be made to protect Jackson, urging all levels of government to ensure his safety.

KanyiDaily recalls that the United States recently imposed fresh visa restrictions on a number of Nigerians accused of violating religious freedom.
