The news of her death was announced on Tuesday through an Instagram post by fellow gospel musician Ayo Melody, on behalf of her family.
The post confirmed that Bunmi Akinnaanu died on January 12, 2026, at a hospital in Lagos.
It reads, “With great sadness 💔😭 we announce the passing of Evangelist Olubunmi Akinnanu Adeoye (OMIJE OJUMI), who passed away on 12th January 2026 at a Lagos hospital in Nigeria.
“May God grant her eternal rest 🙏.”
The singer’s death comes months after she publicly asked for prayers while dealing with a serious leg condition.
In October 2025, she was seen in a video during a church service at G.F David Ministries in Ibadan, Oyo State, where she received prayers while seated with her injured leg placed on a chair.
A medical cannula was also visible on her hand, highlighting the seriousness of her health challenges.
During the service, the pastor told the congregation that Bunmi had been experiencing continuous bleeding in her leg, which he described as a spiritual attack.
He prayed for healing and spoke against death over her life.
Bunmi Akinnaanu started singing at the age of 10 and later left her banking job to focus fully on gospel music.
She gained nationwide recognition with “Omije Ojumi,” a song that resonated deeply with many Christians and became widely used in churches and homes. She went on to release other inspirational songs, including “O Ti Sure” .
Following the announcement of her death, tributes have continued to pour in from fans, colleagues, and members of the Christian community who were touched by her music.
