Darren Fletcher is expected to lead the team for Wednesday’s Premier League match against Burnley.
Amorim had hinted last Friday that things were not smooth behind the scenes, suggesting he would not receive full backing in the transfer market.
After the 1-1 draw with Leeds on Sunday, he again appeared critical of the club’s hierarchy, saying he wanted to be a “manager, not just a head coach,” and was prepared to leave when his deal ran out in 18 months.
Less than 24 hours later, the club confirmed that Amorim had “departed his role as head coach of Manchester United” after 14 months in charge.
“With Manchester United sitting sixth in the Premier League, the club’s leadership has reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change,” Man Utd said.
“This will give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish.
“The club would like to thank Ruben for his contribution to the club and wishes him well for the future.”
Sources told BBC Sport that the club felt there had not been enough development or clear progress under his leadership this season.
Ruben Amorim, 40, was appointed in November 2024 and won 25 of his 63 matches with the club.
His 14-month spell is United’s shortest permanent managerial reign since David Moyes, who was dismissed after eight months in 2014.
KanyiDaily recalls that Manchester United appointed Ruben Amorim as their new head coach, following Erik ten Hag’s departure in November 2024.
