Akpe was nominated by Governor Douye Diri after the position became vacant following the death of the former deputy governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.
Before his confirmation, Peter Akpe served as Chief of Staff at the Government House in Yenagoa.
He has many years of experience in public service and politics.
Akpe previously represented his constituency in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly for two terms.
He also worked in the civil service, where he rose to the position of Director before taking on top political appointments such as Deputy Chief of Staff and later Acting Chief of Staff.
Akpe holds a PhD and is also a Christian minister, often referred to as Hon. (Dr) or Pastor Peter Akpe.
Peter Akpe confirmation comes after Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo passed away in December 2025.
