The debate started after Wizkid caused backlash by saying he is “bigger” than Fela.
He made the comment while replying to criticism from Fela’s son, Seun Kuti, over comparisons between him and the late music icon.
Speaking in a preview of an upcoming episode of the “Mic On” podcast, 2Face dismissed the comparison as unnecessary and wrong.
He said putting the two artists in the same bracket shows a lack of respect for Fela’s legacy and also does a disservice to Wizkid.
According to him, Fela and Wizkid belong to different generations and made their marks in very different ways.
He stressed that each artist’s influence and contribution to Nigerian music should be judged within their own time, rather than being compared against each other.
“Comparing Fela with Wizkid is ridiculous. Apart from the fact that it is disrespectful to Fela, and at the same time, it is also unfair to Wizkid,” 2Face expressed.
KanyiDaily recalls that Femi Kuti also reacted to the comparisons between today’s music stars and Fela Kuti, saying the debate serves no real purpose.
