The proposed change aimed to require the presiding officers of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)Β to upload results from each polling unit directly to the IREV portal in real time.
This upload was to take place after the official result form, EC8A, had been completed, signed, and stamped by the presiding officer, and endorsed by party agents.
However, lawmakers rejected the proposal and decided to retain the existing provision in the Electoral Act.
The existing law states that βthe presiding officer shall transfer the results, including the total number of accredited voters and the results of the ballot, in a manner as prescribed by the Commission.β
