He made the statement while canvassing support for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate ahead of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) election in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Addressing supporters, Peter Obi said backing the party in the AMAC poll would strengthen his broader political ambition.
He stressed that he is actively preparing to contest the next presidential election and assured them that his plans would become clearer in due time.
“You see this coming election, support us in AMAC; it will help me. Your support in AMAC is critical to our journey. I am involved and contesting the coming election as number one. When I come back, you will see. I assure you,” Obi said.
Since aligning with the ADC, many of his loyal supporters, especially members of the Obidient movement, have been calling on the party to hand him its presidential ticket.
At the same time, the party’s spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, has appealed for calm among members, urging them to avoid divisive comments and focus on party unity.
There has also been growing talk within political circles about a possible joint ticket pairing Peter Obi with Rabiu Kwankwaso under the ADC.
Speculation intensified after Kwankwaso chose not to return to the All Progressives Congress (APC), raising questions about a potential alliance.
Meanwhile, supporters of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar have suggested that Obi could consider running as a vice-presidential candidate, similar to the arrangement seen in 2019.
Obi, however, rejected the idea, reaffirming that he intends to run as the main presidential candidate in 2027.
He told his audience that their support in the upcoming AMAC election is an important step in his overall political path.
Obi has also continued to repeat his promise that, if elected president, he would serve only a single four-year term and not seek to remain in office beyond that period.
KanyiDaily recalls that Peter Obi criticised local government chairmen in Adamawa for funding trips to Turkey for their wives under the pretext of leadership training.
