AGF Fagbemi Takes Over Malami’s Prosecution From DSS

Malami is facing charges related to terrorism and illegal possession of firearms. The case was originally filed by the Department of State Services (DSS).

On Wednesday, Fagbemi, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, took over the trial from the DSS at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo, informed the court that the Attorney General had taken over the matter.

Oyedepo told Justice Joyce Abdulmalik that the trial could not continue immediately because the new prosecution team needed time to study the case file.

Lawyer to the defendants, Adedayo Adedeji, did not object to the request for more time.

However, he asked the court to dismiss the case if the prosecution fails to begin its arguments at the next hearing, citing a lack of serious effort to move the case forward.

Justice Abdulmalik then adjourned the case until March 10, when the prosecution is expected to present its case.

KanyiDaily recalls that on February 27, the court granted bail to Abubakar Malami and his son, Abdulaziz, in the sum of ₦200 million each.
