DSS Arrests Suspect, Udeme Stephen Who Threatened Peter Obi After Edo Attack

The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a man, Udeme Sunday Stephen, who is suspected of being involved in an attack on the former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and some leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Benin, Edo State.

KanyiDaily recalls that the attack happened last Tuesday at the home of ADC chieftain John Odigie-Oyegun, shortly after Obi and party members returned from the ADC secretariat, where they welcomed Olumide Akpata, the party’s 2023 governorship candidate for Edo.

Following the incident, Udeme Stephen reportedly claimed responsibility in a post on his X account @stevetom788, also threatening further attacks on Obi.

In his post, the suspect said Peter Obi was lucky to escape in Benin and warned that he might not be so fortunate next time.

Stephen wrote, “We warned Obi against his entrance into Edo State, but he mistook our resolve for his Obidiots online noise. Thank his stars he (Obi) survived this one.

“I learnt he’s going to my Rivers State… Na my men go handle that one and dem no dey miss target… Speak no peace to a bastard and wish him no long life, for he’s destined to die.”

A DSS source said that as soon as Stephen made the threat, the agency began an undercover investigation using forensic tools to track and apprehend him.

The suspect, 26, is said to be a teacher at Jessica High School in Eliozu, Umuehere Community, Obio-Akpor, Rivers State.

The DSS source said, “I strongly believe that the outcome of the agency’s forensic investigations implicated the suspect.

“You know that, as a responsible security organisation saddled with the task of counter-espionage, VIP protection, among other asset protection duties, the DSS is always alive to its responsibility of investigating credible intelligence, irrespective of tribe or religion.

“They swiftly deployed operatives and the man who threatened Peter Obi was nabbed and is in custody.”

KanyiDaily recalls that actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo claimed that the attack on Peter Obi was carried out by the government or its agents.
