Ireti Kingibe, who represented the FCT in the Senate, was elected in 2023 under the Labour Party.
Last year, Wike publicly declared that she would not return to the upper chamber in the next election.
Their disagreement follows criticism from the senator, who accused the minister of ignoring her letters and messages, especially on the issue of growing insecurity in Abuja.
She also argued that the FCT administration was not paying enough attention to residents’ needs, pointing to water shortages and other ongoing problems.
Speaking during a media briefing in Abuja on Monday, Nyesom Wike repeated his position that Kingibe won’t be returning to Senate.
The minister maintained that performance should determine whether an elected official deserves another term.
He said, “I had said it more than one year ago, Senator Ireti, you won’t come back as a senator.
“That’s why you people don’t like people who tell you the truth. It’s bitter. Let her show one project.”
Wike also claimed that the senator has not been active in satellite towns, suggesting that she has not maintained a strong presence in communities where many voters live.
KanyiDaily recalls that Ireti Kingibe recently accused Nyesom Wike of refusing to cooperate with her on issues concerning the governance of Abuja.
