President Tinubu Nominates Lamido Yuguda As CBN Deputy Governor

President Bola Tinubu has nominated Lamido Abubakar Yuguda to serve as a deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

According to the statement, the nomination was made in line with Section 8(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007.

Yuguda’s nomination follows the recent appointment of the erstwhile Deputy Governor, Mr Bala Bello, as Special Adviser to the President on Political Economy,” the statement reads.

“The President charges them to discharge their responsibilities with renewed dedication, professionalism, and commitment to Nigeria’s economic stability and growth, in their respective roles.”

Before this latest nomination, Lamido Yuguda served as the director-general of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), a position he held from 2020 until 2024. He was confirmed for the role by the Senate on June 10, 2020.

He is an alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University, where he graduated in 1983 with a BSC in Accountancy,” the presidency added.

In 1991, he obtained a master’s degree in Money, Banking and Finance from the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom.”

The presidency further stated that Yuguda is also a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.

Yuguda began his professional career at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in 1984, working as a senior supervisor in the foreign operations department.

He later joined the International Monetary Fund (IMF), where he worked as an economist in the Africa department from 1997 to 2001 before returning to the CBN.

After several years at the apex bank, he retired in 2016, having served as director of the reserve management department for six years.

On February 22, 2024, Yuguda was also confirmed, along with 12 others, as members of the CBN’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC).

KanyiDaily recalls that President Bola Tinubu recently extended the tenure of Ahmed Abubakar Audi as the Commandant-General of the NSCDC for another five years.
