11 People Killed, 50 Houses Burnt During Communal Clash In Nasarawa

At least 11 people have been killed and over 50 houses set ablaze after suspected hoodlums attacked the Akyawa and Udege Kasa communities in Nasarawa LGA of Nasarawa State.

The Nasarawa State Police Command spokesman, Ramhan Nansel, said in a statement on Saturday that the violence happened on Friday.

According to him, the attack was believed to be a revenge mission linked to the alleged killing of two relatives of the attackers.

Nansel also said the state Commissioner of Police, Shetima Mohammed, visited the affected communities and expressed “deep sorrow over the tragic incident”.

“He commiserated with the families of the deceased and the entire community, assuring them of the Command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that justice is served,” he said.

“In response, CP Shetima has ordered an intensive manhunt for all perpetrators of the heinous act, directing tactical teams and investigative units to ensure their prompt identification, arrest, and prosecution.

“To prevent any further breakdown of law and order, the Commissioner of Police has also directed the immediate reinforcement and sustained deployment of Police personnel, in synergy with the Military and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), to provide adequate security and restore lasting peace in the area.”

As part of his visit, a stakeholders’ meeting was held where community members were urged to stay peaceful, obey the law, and support security agencies with useful information that could help ongoing investigations.

The police command added that calm has now returned to the affected communities, while preventive security measures have been put in place to avoid another outbreak of violence.

KanyiDaily recalls that fresh violence also broke out in Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State following clashes between the Chobo and Bachama communities.
