Governor Dapo Abiodun Gifts 40 SUVs To Ogun Monarchs

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has distributed 40 brand-new SUVs to traditional rulers across the state as part of efforts to improve their movement and strengthen governance at the community level.

The presentation took place during a statutory meeting of the Ogun State Council of Obas held at the Oba’s Complex in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Governor Abiodun explained that the gesture was a way of appreciating the monarchs for their continuous support and cooperation with his administration.

He described traditional rulers as important cultural leaders who also serve as a link between the government and the people.

According to him, supporting them with vehicles would not only improve their comfort but also help them move more easily within their domains to maintain peace and order.

The governor praised the monarchs for contributing to the peaceful environment that has supported his “Building Our Future Together” development agenda.

He also urged them to continue working with the government to create a friendly environment for investors in their communities.

Abiodun warned that any form of hostility toward investors could slow down economic growth in the state.

He expressed concern over reports of resistance to investors in some areas, including Yewa South, Ipokia, and Ijebu North, saying such behaviour is harmful to development.

He stressed that major investments are needed to create jobs, improve infrastructure, and boost the state’s economy, adding that communities should support such efforts instead of blocking them.

“We have received disturbing reports about the conduct of some communities during recent investor engagements. This is unacceptable,” he said.

“These investors are bringing in significant capital that will transform our economy, create jobs for our people, and improve livelihoods; they must be welcomed and supported.”

The governor called on traditional rulers to take responsibility for maintaining peace and encouraging cooperation in their areas, saying development cannot happen where there is conflict or distrust.

“Kabiyesis, I urge you to work closely with your people to create an enabling environment for investors. Development cannot thrive in an atmosphere of hostility and distrust. We must position Ogun State as a preferred investment destination,” the governor said.

He also reaffirmed his government’s commitment to protecting investors and said actions that discourage investment would not be accepted.

On security, Abiodun urged residents and traditional leaders to stay alert and report suspicious activities to security agencies, noting that local vigilance is important in maintaining peace.

While acknowledging national efforts to improve security, he said community-level awareness remains essential in sustaining stability in Ogun State.

He also warned against careless land allocation by traditional rulers, describing land as a valuable economic resource that must be managed carefully and transparently.

“Our land is our oil. It must not be allocated carelessly. We must ensure that land matters are handled transparently and responsibly to attract and retain genuine investors,” he added.

The governor further warned landlords against renting out properties to criminals, adding that any building found to be used for illegal activities would be demolished.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ganiyu Hazmat, said the meeting was the first of 2026 and focused on security, development, and stronger cooperation between government and traditional institutions.

The Chairman of the Council and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, also commended the governor’s efforts and pledged continued support for policies aimed at improving growth and stability in the state.

KanyiDaily recalls that Governor Dapo Abiodun previously gifted a new car to Mr. Solanke Taiwo, a teacher at Ansa-Ur-Deen Main School I in Kemta Lawa, Abeokuta, after he emerged as Nigeria’s Overall Best Primary School Teacher.
