Iran Closes Strait Of Hormuz Again, Accuses US Of ‘Sea Robbery’

Less than a day after reopening the Strait of Hormuz to ship traffic, Iran has once again closed the key maritime route.

A spokesperson for Iran’s Khatam al-Anbia Central Headquarters accused the United States of continuing act of “ piracy” and “sea robbery” at the sea, saying Washington is using the so-called blockade as cover.

The US had earlier announced it was enforcing a naval blockade in the area.

Although Iran briefly allowed ships to pass through the strait again on Friday, Donald Trump made it clear the American restrictions would stay in place until ongoing negotiations with Tehran are fully concluded.

Despite the tension, both sides are still engaged in talks and appear to be working toward a longer-term agreement, while a ceasefire remains active.

In a statement on Saturday, an Iranian military official said the US actions forced Tehran to reverse its decision to reopen the waterway.

As a result, control over the Strait of Hormuz has been returned to its previous state, and this strategic waterway is under strict management and control by the Armed Forces,” the spokesman said, according to the Tasnim news agency.

The official also warned that the situation will not change unless the US lifts its restrictions on vessels traveling to and from Iranian ports.

He emphasized that until then, access through the Strait of Hormuz will remain tightly controlled and unchanged from its previous status.

This comes hours after Iran warned it could close the Strait of Hormuz again if the United States keeps blocking access to its ports.
