The development has sparked strong reactions across the country, with many describing it as inappropriate and out of touch.
Some residents in Kano have called it one of the most questionable forms of political engagement seen in recent times.
At the time of filing this report, the state government has not released an statement confirming whether the distribution was directly organised by authorities or carried out by supporters acting independently.
