The couple got married in a traditional ceremony in Abuja in November 2020, but Bashir El-Rufai recently confirmed they are no longer together.
He made this known while chatting with followers on X, where he praised another woman’s appearance.
The comment drew reactions, with some users questioning whether he was still married.
Bashir responded by stating clearly that he is now divorced and already preparing for another marriage.
“Divorced and soon to be married again,” he wrote.
The lawmaker revealed that the marriage ended due to “Gen Z wahala”, hinting that his ex-wife’s mindset did not align with his own.
When asked about his next partner, Bashir said she is from the Nupe ethnic group and hails from Bida in Niger State.
The lawmaker spoke positively about the relationship, saying he appreciates how he is treated.
He said, “Yes, she’s from Bida, and yes, I divorced my first wife (I have no time for GenZ wahala). The difference is clear, I had no clue Nupe women treat their husbands like emperors. Loving it.”
Bashir El-Rufai maintained that he has never been the one to chase women or initiate relationships.
According to him, his former wife was the one who proposed marriage to him.
“I don’t toast babes. Never have. It’s not even about bragging rights or pride. Neither have I ever used money in exchange for companionship,” he wrote.
“Sometimes it’s even years later I discover one babe or another liked me. I can’t tell. They make the first move. I also never asked a girl to marry me. Even my 1st she was the one that proposed.”
He concluded with a personal wish: “I want a baby girl by September. Keep doing slay queen here”.
