Ex-Kano Deputy Governor Aminu Gwarzo Emerges NDC Guber Candidate
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has picked Aminu Gwarzo as its governorship candidate for Kano State ahead of the 2027 elections.

This was confirmed by former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso in an X post shared on Friday, where he said the choice was based on fairness, loyalty, and competence.
Kwankwaso also revealed that Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna has been given the party’s ticket for the Kano Central senatorial race.
“I am delighted to announce that His Excellency, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo has been selected as our Kano NDC gubernatorial candidate for the upcoming elections,” he wrote.
“Similarly, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna will contest for the Kano Central Senatorial Seat.
“This decision was made in the spirit of equity, fairness, loyalty, and competence — values that remain central to our party and Kwankwasiyya’s progress and unity.
“As we proceed with today’s affirmation exercise, I pray for a seamless, peaceful, and successful process.
“May Almighty Allah grant us resounding victory in the forthcoming elections.”
Gwarzo’s emergence follows a series of political moves in recent weeks. He joined the NDC shortly after leaving the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on May 5.
His exit came just days after Kwankwaso and Peter Obi also left the ADC for the NDC, citing consultations and concerns about the party’s direction.
