Tobi Amusan Sets Season’s Best Time To Finish Second At Xiamen Diamond League

Nigerian sprinter Tobi Amusan finished second in the women’s 100m hurdles final at the Xiamen Diamond League in China on Saturday, taking home a silver medal.

The race was won by USA’s Masai Russell, who crossed the line in 12.14 seconds.

Her time came very close to the world record of 12.12 seconds set by Amusan during the semi-finals of the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, USA.

Amusan ended the race ahead of Devyne Charlton, who placed third with a time of 12.37 seconds.

The Nigerian athlete recorded 12.28 seconds, improving on her previous season’s best of 12.41 seconds. That performance now stands as one of the fastest times of her career in the event.

This was her second Diamond League appearance this season. She had a slower start compared to Russell and Charlton, who both reacted quickly out of the blocks.

As the race progressed, Russell pulled away to secure the win, while Amusan held her position ahead of Charlton to comfortably finish second without a close finish at the line.

The 29-year-old recently made headlines after winning the 100m hurdles title for the third time in a row at the African Senior Athletics Championships.

She is expected to compete again at the next Diamond League meet in Rabat, Morocco, on May 31, where she will aim to return to winning form.
