KanyiDaily recalls that Olawande recently announced plans to replace the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) khaki uniform with locally made Adire fabric as part of reforms designed to improve the scheme.
The minister said the decision is aimed at supporting Nigerian textile producers and ensuring government spending benefits local businesses.
Reacting in a video shared on social media, VeryDarkMan argued that adire is closely linked to the Yoruba culture and should not become the official outfit for a national scheme that includes people from every part of Nigeria.
He said the proposal does not reflect the country’s cultural diversity, pointing out that many other ethnic groups, such as the Igbo, Hausa, Nupe, Efik, Edo and Ijaw, also have traditional clothing that could be considered.
According to him, making a Yoruba cultural outfit the official dress for the NYSC could create concerns about fairness and equal representation among Nigeria’s different ethnic groups.
VeryDarkMan also criticised the minister, saying people who make such proposals should not be entrusted with important government positions.
He further claimed that the Ministry of Youth Development has recorded little progress since Olawande took office, insisting that there have been no significant achievements aimed at improving the lives of young Nigerians.
Speaking in the video, he said, “This is what happens when you put m0r0ns in the position of Minister of Youth Development. Since he became minister, there has been no tangible achievement in respect to youth development in Nigeria.”
