Chelsea Announces Signing Of Pep Chavarria From Rayo Vallecano

Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Spanish defender Pep Chavarria from La Liga club Rayo Vallecano.

It was gathered that the 28-year-old signed a contract that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2031.

Pep Chavarria will now join his new teammates at Cobham as Chelsea prepare for the 2026/27 season.

Speaking after completing the move, Chavarria said he was delighted to join Chelsea and described the transfer as a dream opportunity.

He said Chelsea is one of the biggest clubs in the world, stressing that he was ready to work hard and contribute to the team’s success.

“I’m so excited to get started. ‘This is a dream for me as Chelsea are one of the biggest clubs in the world. It is a big opportunity but I am prepared and will work hard to help the team achieve success.

‘There are a lot of people who have helped me get to this moment and I have to thank my family. They have always supported me and today is only possible because of them,” the 28-year-old said.

Pep Chavarria started his football journey with his hometown club UE Figueres in the Spanish fourth division.

He made his senior debut at the age of 18 against CF Peralada before developing into an attacking left-back during his time with the club.

In 2018, he moved to third-tier side UE Olot, where he quickly became a regular starter and established himself as one of the division’s notable players.

After making 52 appearances for Olot, Chavarria joined Real Zaragoza in August 2020 when the club was playing in Spain’s second division.

He made his professional debut for Zaragoza the following month, starting in a 2-2 draw against Las Palmas.

The defender continued to progress and spent two seasons with Zaragoza before earning a move to the Spanish top flight with Rayo Vallecano in August 2022.

Chavarria became an important player for Rayo during his four years at the club. He played a role in the team’s recent success, including consecutive eighth-place finishes in La Liga and a run to a European final.

Last season, he made 44 appearances for Rayo as the club reached the UEFA Conference League final, where they suffered a narrow defeat to Crystal Palace.

Pep Chavarria will now begin a new chapter at Chelsea as the London club prepares for the upcoming campaign.
