Pradeep Rawat passed away on Tuesday night, August 4, 2026, while receiving treatment at Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai, according to actress Vipana Thapa, who confirmed the news from India.
Rawat’s former “Lagaan” co-star, Yashpal Sharma, paid tribute to him on social media, mourning the loss of his longtime friend.
“Pradeep Rawat, Ghajini our Deva of Lagaan. RIP,” Sharma wrote.
Rawat became widely known for playing Ashwatthama in the popular television series “Mahabharat.”
Over the years, he built a successful career in Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil cinema, earning praise for both heroic and villainous roles.
Some of his best-known performances came in films such as “Sarfarosh,” “Lagaan,” and “Ghajini.”
He also appeared in the Nepali movies “Aabaat Aama,” “Aabaat Aama-2,” and “Hraswa Deergha,” directed by Chandra Pant.
Rawat shared the screen with Vipana Thapa in the Nepali films “Aabaat Aama” and its sequel.
Following news of his passing, Thapa expressed her grief on social media.
Fans and members of the Indian film industry have also been paying tribute to the late actor online, remembering his contributions to cinema and television.
