2027: I’m Not Obidient Or Kwankwasiyya, I’m NDC  -  Seriake Dickson

Senator Seriake Dickson, National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has clarified that he is neither a member of the Obidient or Kwankwasiyya movement, saying his loyalty remains with the NDC.

Dickson made the statement during an interview on Arise TV’s “Prime Time” programme on Wednesday, September 9.

He was speaking about the relationship between the NDC and the support groups linked to its presidential and vice-presidential candidates, Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso.

“I’m not a member of Kwankwasiyya. I’m not a member of Obedient. I am NDC,” Dickson said.

He explained that both support groups had the right to keep their separate identities, but stressed that Obi and Kwankwaso are the candidates representing the NDC in the 2027 presidential election.

Kwankwasiyya has a right to be on its own under the constitution, and same for the Obedient group. Their principals are our candidates, presidential candidate and running-mate,” he said.

According to him, the party has moved past its internal disagreements after agreeing on its candidates and is now focused on securing victory in the election.

There are no internal battles to fight in the NDC. We have decided candidature. The next stage of the battle, strategically, is to win the election,” he said.

Dickson urged members and supporters of the party, including those connected to the Obi and Kwankwaso movements, to concentrate on reaching out to voters instead of arguing among themselves.

The former Bayelsa governor also described the relationship between Obi, Kwankwaso and other members of the NDC as one that has developed over many years.

“I have held several meetings and even before now, we used to meet over the years. We have been colleagues, partners and friends, sometimes in the same camp, in the same party, other times, but always meeting,” he said.
