APC, PDP File Petitions Challenging Adeleke’s Re-Election As Osun Governor

The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have taken separate petitions to challenge the re-election of Ademola Adeleke as governor of Osun State.

The two parties filed petitions before the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Osogbo.

The petitions were displayed on the tribunal’s notice board on Monday, officially beginning the legal challenge to the August 15 governorship election.

Pefe Belemore, secretary of the tribunal, confirmed that petitions had been received from the two parties.

The APC petition, identified as EPT/OS/GOV/01/2026, was filed by the party’s candidate, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji.

He listed Governor Adeleke, the Accord Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as respondents.

The PDP also filed a petition, numbered EPT/OS/GOV/02/2026. It was submitted by Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola against Adeleke, INEC and the Accord Party.

With the petitions now displayed, the parties involved are expected to be served with the necessary court documents before further hearings begin at the tribunal.

Adeleke, who contested the election under the Accord Party, was declared winner after receiving 511,067 votes.

The APC’s decision to challenge the result came shortly after Oyebamiji publicly said he accepted the outcome and congratulated Adeleke.

In a statement issued on August 29, Oyebamiji said he accepted the result but expressed concern about the violence and deaths recorded during the election.

“While we accept the outcome of the election and congratulate the winner, we cannot forget the painful incidents of violence and the lives that were lost,” he said.

Oyebamiji added that his camp would continue to pursue justice and fairness through legal and constitutional channels where genuine concerns existed.

Following his victory, Adeleke had urged Oyebamiji and other candidates to set aside their political differences and work with his administration for the benefit of Osun State.
