I Wouldn’t Have Married Simi If She Had SS Genotype – Adekunle Gold [Video]

Nigerian singer Adekunle Gold said he would not have gone ahead with his marriage to his wife Simi if she had tested positive for the SS blood genotype.

Gold made the disclosure during an interview on the One 54 podcast, where he spoke about the importance of checking genotype compatibility before entering a serious relationship.

According to him, he and Simi carried out genotype tests when they started dating to find out whether they were medically compatible, and he found out that she is AA.

Adekunle Gold urged people to take genotype testing seriously, especially when planning marriage and having children.

He said couples should understand the possible health risks before making long-term decisions.

“There is so much awareness to be done. People need to understand that if you have sickle cell, forget about love, you can’t be with someone with sickle cell too. It makes no sense to bring a child into the world who will be sickly,” the singer said.

“There’s no way I would have married my wife Simi if she was sickle cell. The first thing we did when we met was a genotype test to know if we matched. If we didn’t, I wouldn’t have married her. She is AA.”

Adekunle Gold has openly spoken about his experience with sickle cell disease and has used his platform to promote awareness of the condition.

In 2022, the singer shared details of his personal journey and addressed the issue in his song “5 Star.”

In July 2024, he said he remained committed to supporting people living with sickle cell disease and wanted them to feel protected and supported.

The singer continued his advocacy in 2025 by launching a free health insurance initiative aimed at helping 1,000 people living with sickle cell disease.
